The New Brunswick government is moving forward with its plan to recognize interprovincial labour credentials. Amendments to the Fair Registration Practices in Regulated Professions Act were tabled Tuesday. The Liberals say the amendments, if passed, would allow eligible applicants from outside the province to begin work once proof of their registration has been received. “With potential tariff-related disruptions and an uncertain economic climate, workers and businesses need the ability to adapt quickly to quickly changing circumstances,” said Jean-Claude D’Amours, acting minister of post-secondary education, training and labour, in a provincial news release. “A flexible and responsive labour market is essential during these times, and these amendments reinforce these objectives.” The province says it will still have the authority to give final approval of the registration process. “Our government acknowledges the important role of our regulatory bodies and the critical work they do to support New Brunswick’s labour market,” D’Amours added. “They have been excellent partners, and we will continue to engage with them for the advancement of the province.” The Fair Registration Practices in Regulated Professions Act became law in 2022.
