A 24-year-old man from Bathurst, N.B., has been charged with child sexual abuse and exploitation material offences. New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit started an investigation in November 2025 after receiving reports of sexual abuse and exploitation material on social media platforms. “The investigation revealed that an individual in the Bathurst area was in possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material,” reads a news release from RCMP on Tuesday. A join team of Bathurst police and RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on Grange Avenue on April 30 as part of the investigation. Police seized several electronic devices and the man was arrested. Jesse Smith was charged in Bathurst provincial court with possession and accessing and making child sexual abuse and exploitation material. He’s scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 5.
