One week after announcing the death of former constable Andrew Savoy, Fredericton Police Chief Gary Forward says the police force will not be providing any more information about the charges against Savoy. Savoy was charged last week with perjury, uttering forged documents and breach of trust. Forward said at the time the force began looking into the situation last November and that Savoy resigned from the police force in January. Savoy’s death was announced last Thursday. “It’s before the courts, this ceases our role in this,” Forward said. When asked on next steps, Forward pointed reporters to speak with the Crown going forward. “I’m satisfied that the information, our systems mechanisms demonstrate that they were working as intended, that we were able to look at certain files, see those inconsistencies and then follow up with an independent criminal investigation,” he said. And he said it’s possible some criminal cases will be impacted by the charges, though he’s not aware of any yet. If the police force learns of any such cases, Forward said he will update the public. “I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of an additional case being impacted at this point in time,” he said.
