The Codiac RCMP officially has a new detachment in Moncton. The facility, located on 199 Albert St., had its grand opening ceremony on Tuesday. The detachment, which cost $59.2 million, will serve Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview, according to an RCMP news release. It has been fully operational since the summer. Construction started in May 2022. “Thoughtfully designed, the facility provides the much-needed space and resources to support our employees as we continue to evolve and adapt to the growing needs of policing,” said Commanding Officer Matco Sirotic in the release. “It reflects our ongoing commitment to modern, responsive policing and to fostering strong partnerships with the people we serve.” Superintendent Benoit Jolette said the project has been eight years in the making. “Your heart starts racing a little faster when you see this facility, especially when you compare it to our old facility,” Jolette said. “It did its job and it served its purpose, but we had outgrown that years ago. “This new building changes all that. Something new, it’s like that new care smell. It’s just fantastic.” With files from CTV News Atlantic’s Derek Haggett For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
