Man arrested for allegedly holding woman against her will on car ride from Moncton to N.S.

The RCMP has arrested a man who allegedly held a woman against her will in a vehicle as it travelled from Moncton, N.B., to Elmsdale, N.S., Tuesday afternoon.

Police say a woman called police about an armed man keeping her in a vehicle around 2:35 p.m. She gave police some information before the call was interrupted, according to an RCMP news release.

“As information was gathered, police learned that the vehicle may have been headed towards Nova Scotia, so the Codiac Regional RCMP coordinated with the Nova Scotia RCMP and issued a request to locate the vehicle,” the release reads.

Police found the vehicle near Elmsdale and conducted a traffic stop. Officers safely removed the woman from the vehicle and arrested a 28-year-old man.

Police also seized a knife.

“The successful resolution of this incident is the result of quick thinking by the victim and strong coordination between RCMP members in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia,” said Cpl. Luc Picard of the Codiac Regional RCMP. “The victim’s ability to safely communicate with police provided critical information that helped officers locate the vehicle and bring the situation to a safe conclusion.”

Police say the man remains in custody and will appear in court at a later date.
