From Beep jerseys to highly trained geese, Maritimers mark April Fool’s with plenty of pranks

Plenty of people from across the Maritimes got creative for April Fools’ Day.

Maritimers who opened social media Wednesday had plenty of local April Fool’s pranks to fall for.

Here are just a few of them:

Chocolate for sleep deprivation

Peace By Chocolate CEO, and new father, Tareq Hadhad said the company was launching a new sweet treat.

“After extensive testing with our toughest critic (7 weeks old), we are launching: Peace by Chocolate Sleep Deprivation Edition,” he wrote on Facebook.

“This is designed for parents who haven’t slept since February, and it pairs well with 2 am feedings and zero expectations.”

Halifax Wanderers show their love for Beep

The Halifax Wanderers Football Club said it was launching a limited-edition Beep kit – a nod to a beloved discontinued Maritime fruit drink.

“BEEP at breakfast, BEEP on match day,” the club said.

“We’ve developed the world’s first scratch and sniff jersey with scents of Orange, Apple and Pineapple!!! BEEP is back (on a jersey).”

‘Wild Willie’ turns pink

Another local sports team pulled an April Fool’s prank, though it involved their mascot.

The QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats said “Wild Willie” was in the hospital Wednesday.

“In an unfortunate turn of events, Wild Willie wasn’t feeling great after going a little too hard on the cotton candy,” the team said.

“Turns out… Pepto-Bismol wasn’t his friend either. Side note: If you have cats — don’t give them Pepto-Bismol. Seriously.”

P.E.I. tourism paints the shores red

Prince Edward Island Tourism said it was finally admitting painting their shoes red every year.

“It’s a lot of work but everyone chips in and we can usually get it done in a weekend. We do have to wait for the tide to go out to get the sandbars finished up but it never takes too long,” it said.

“This year, our red cliffs will be delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you have a great April Fools Day!”

Colour-coordinated library

Cape Breton Regional Library announced it was getting a “major glow-up” and entering its “aesthetic era” with a brand-new colour-coordinated cataloguing system.

“Starting today, books will no longer be shelved by author or subject. Going forward, they’ll be arranged by the colour of the cover! Say good-bye to boring alphabetical organization (yawn!), farewell to the dated Dewey Decimal System, and HELLO to a brighter, bolder library experience,” it said in a post on Facebook.

The library added staff would also offer patrons a “complimentary colour chart analysis” to help them find what to read next.

“Come join us for a fresh new chapter, where organization meets imagination,” the post reads.

“P.S. Don’t worry, we haven’t completely lost the plot. This post is a work of fiction. Happy April Fool’s Day!”

Highly trained Canada geese

Halifax Search and Rescue (SAR) announced an exciting equipment update.

“After years of planning, Halifax Search and Rescue is proud to announce the newest addition to our fleet: the Rapid Response Goose Unit (RRGU),” the organization said on Facebook.

The highly trained Canada geese were said to help with the following:

• aerial reconnaissance

• trail clearing

• aggressive honking-based signalling

• snack theft deterrence

SAR asked people to not pet the geese, make eye contact or run from them.

“They will win,” SAR said. “Full deployment begins April 1.”

‘Underground luxury condos’

Arsenault Properties on P.E.I. said it was launching underground condos, designed for those looking for “privacy, efficiency, and a truly grounded living experience.”

The units were said to offer temperature stability, wind protection, soundproofing, private subterranean patios and reinforced ceilings with up to four feet of topsoil for added insulation and serenity.

“With limited availability and strong early interest, we encourage prospective residents to submit an application early,” a post from the company reads. “Excavation begins soon!”
