Canadian comedy legend Bruce McCulloch is bringing his stand-up show “Dark Purple Slice” to the Maritimes this week. The show is described as a blend of standup comedy, storytelling and music that focuses on finding light within the dark. “I tell some stories from dark times in my life and share them with the audience. I give them some stuffies if they are going through a bad time and then the stuffies at the end of the show get returned to me,” said McCulloch in an interview with Your Morning Atlantic’s Crystal Garrett. “It’s really funny, but some people have told me it’s a really moving experience.” The show is accompanied by a new comedy album, produced by Craig Northey, a guitarist known for his work with the Odds and Colin James. McCulloch says the album artwork features a teddy bear to represent the teddy bears he hands out to the audience during the show. “I started doing this when I was teaching a workshop for young people. They needed stuffies because they were anxious, so I give them all one. I think it is a lovely idea.” McCulloch says being on the road again has been really great. “I have been at this for so long now and I love that I can take this show out to so many different places and just commune with people. I do a lot of other stuff but the thing that I do that is the most fun is getting to meet people.” “This show features dark humour, and I do like dark humour. I think in the dark times of life humour is the thing that gets you through,” he added. McCulloch performs at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton, N.B., on Friday and Casino Nova Scotia in Halifax Saturday.
