HALIFAX - One person is dead and another injured following the crash during a snowstorm of a small plane on the U.S. side of the Maine-New Brunswick border.

Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department said the four-seat Diamond DA-40 left Halifax early Monday en route to Quebec.

He said it may have been returning when it went down in northwest Somerset County later in the day.

A Canadian search and rescue helicopter reached the site and airlifted the injured person to a hospital in Canada.

The names of the two people and where they are from wasn't immediately available.

The plane's emergency responder was activated shortly after the pilot reported icing.
