SAO PAULO, Brazil -- A Brazilian domestic airline says a quarreling couple forced a pilot to make an unscheduled landing on Thursday.

Azul Linhas Aereas says in an emailed statement that the plane was flying to Sao Paulo when the "inconvenient behaviour" of two passengers forced the pilot to land in the city of Salvador.

The airline did not provide further details of the quarrel, but passengers cited by the G1 and UOL news portals said the man assaulted one of the flight attendants who tried to calm him down. The couple was later taken into custody by federal police agents.
