HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Nik Wallenda is planning to take his high-wire act to a county fair in western New York where he performed with his family when he was 13.

The daredevil visited the site of the Erie County Fair near Buffalo on Thursday to announce his plans.

He says the Aug. 14 tightrope walk will be his longest so far this year -- 1,400 feet or almost double the length of his usual tightrope walks. He says he will be 125 feet in the air, on a wire measuring 5/8 of an inch in diameter -- about the size of a nickel.

Wallenda has walked across the Niagara Falls and Grand Canyon. He's part of a family of acrobats that has been thrilling audiences for decades as The Flying Wallendas.
