Tiger Woods has withdrawn from golf tournaments for the rest of the season due to injuries he sustained following the bizarre crash of his SUV in front of his suburban Orlando home.

In a statement on his website Monday, Woods announced he won't be able to play in the Chevron World Challenge, a tournament he was set to host starting Thursday in Thousand Oaks, California. He said he would return to competition next year.

"I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week," Woods said in the statement. "I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I'm very sorry that I can't be there."

There are only three more events left on the PGA Tour schedule. Tournaments are very lucrative for Woods, the world's No. 1 ranked golfer, who has won more than $10 million in prize money in 17 competitions this year.

Woods withdrew following a strange car crash Friday morning.

He crashed his Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and a tree in front of his home at 2:30 a.m.

In the days following the incident he has remained tight-lipped on details and has asked for privacy for his family.

He has not spoken publicly, but in statements on his website, he said he was at fault and now has cuts and bruises and feels "sore" from the crash.

He has cancelled three meetings in a row with police who want to ask him about the crash.

Tabloids have published reports that the crash followed a domestic dispute between Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren.
