AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Canada's women's eight captured a silver medal on the final day of the World Rowing Championships.

Cristy Nurse, Lisa Roman, Natalie Mastracci, Rosie DeBoef, Susanne Grainger, Christine Roper, Ashley Brzozowicz, Lauren Wilkinson and coxswain Lesley Thompson-Willie finished in five minutes 59.660 seconds.

The United States won gold in 5:56.830 while China (6:00.520) took bronze.

"We all believed right to the line that there was a possibility that we could do it," said Mastracci. "We are going to go back to the drawing board and keep training, that's what we do. We don't give up."

Canada hasn't won gold in the women's eight since the 1992 Barcelona Games.
