After 108 long, fruitless years, Chicago Cubs fans finally have something to celebrate. And celebrate they did.

After the longest winless championship drought in major league baseball history, the Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians 8-7 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio in the early hours of Thursday morning. The thrilling victory didn’t come easy for the Cubs, however. After a promising lead, the Cubs had to fight tooth and nail to keep Cleveland at bay following their epic comeback in the eighth inning. With more than a century of disappointment spurring them on, the Cubs persevered to the 10th inning when leftfielder Ben Zobrist, the series’ MVP, batted an RBI double to give Chicago the lead to secure the long-awaited championship.

After an emotional rollercoaster of a game, Cubs fans at the game in Cleveland, back home in Chicago and all over the world finally had their day. There were hugs, cheers, tears (a lot of them), drinking (a lot of it) and even a celebration involving a foul-smelling 32-year-old unopened beer can.

Here are some of the reactions to the Chicago Cubs overdue World Series win:

This long-time fan was so overcome with emotion after watching the game from his home in San Bernardino, Calif. that he broke down in tears.

He wasn’t the only one in need of a tissue after all of the drama. Even celebrities lose their composure too. Bill Murray had to wipe away tears of joy as he watched his beloved team win from the stands.

To say Bill Murray had a good night at the game is probably an understatement.

Other celebrities from Progressive Field all the way to the White House shared their joy online. Comedian Amy Schumer went wild in the stands jumping up and down and screaming at the top of her lungs.

I'm Very laid back @cubs #mlb #worldseries

U.S. President Barack Obama, who first moved to Chicago in 1985, even got in on the fun with a political crack.

First Lady Michelle Obama took a more sentimental route when she posted her reaction to the game on Twitter.

Nowhere was the enthusiasm more palpable than in Wrigleyville, the Chicago neighbourhood that’s home to Wrigley Field.

There was champagne…

Party continued!

There was random stop sign hoisting…

There was late-night honking…

And a lot of jumping.

For the full Wrigleyville experience, this man posted a five-minute recap from the streets.
Many Chicago Cubs celebrated the historical victory with a bit of nostalgia. An Illinois man filmed his grandfather cracking open an iffy-smelling 32-year-old can of beer he’d been saving in his fridge until his team won the World Series.

This patient 108-year-old woman from New Hampshire has been waiting her whole long life to see the Cubs take the series. She even stayed up well past her bedtime to catch the momentous occasion.

One father made the mistake six years ago of promising his daughter he’d get a “gigantic tattoo” if the Chicago Cubs ever won the World Series. Unfortunately for him, his daughter has a good memory and a voice recorder.

Even an attentive television-watching cat tried to join in on the excitement.
NASA paid tribute to the Chicago victory from a distant vantage point.

During the game when the Cubs were up 3-1, Cubs player Anthony Rizzo was already having a hard time dealing with all of the drama.

Luckily, Rizzo managed to hold it together to be able to enjoy a well-deserved champagne shower with his fellow teammates.

The curse is finally over.

Now, it’s time to sing.
