A French skier found himself caught in the middle of an avalanche with his camera rolling earlier this week, capturing the scary moments before and during the event.

Rafael Prieto Herrera said he was skiing in the French Alps in the southeastern part of the country on Feb. 8 when the avalanche struck.

"In one of our runs, back to the village, this loose snow avalanche was naturally triggered when we were about to descent to the valley," Herrera wrote on the web forum wepowder.com.

Herrera's camera captured the snow rapidly coming towards the skiers. The footage then shows whiteout conditions for about one minute before cutting out.

Herrera wrote that nobody was injured, "but we had a big scare."

He said the skiers had spoken with local guides before their run and they were "riding cautiously" due to the high winds.

"The mountain can be dangerous in spite of all of that," Herrera wrote.
