David Bowie, clowns and Harambe the gorilla are coming with the next Apple update. And if any of those ideas make you want to face palm, well, there will be an emoji for that, too.

Apple appears poised to roll out a boatload of new emojis with its upcoming iOS 10.2 update, as indicated by a developer version of the smartphone software released this week.

The update includes a wide range of smiley-face, profession, gesture and pop culture-related icons, using the full list of 72 emojis approved by regulator Unicode in June.

More alternate-gender versions of existing emojis are being introduced, along with a wide range of jobs including astronaut, painter, firefighter and teacher.

Other notable emojis include a pregnant woman, a clown face (for all the creepy clown costume enthusiasts), and a "rock star" icon with David Bowie's iconic Ziggy Stardust makeup.

Additionally, new gesture-based emojis like the shrug, the scowl, the face palm and a hand snapping a selfie are being added.

In terms of animals, the emoji catalogue will soon look like a virtual Noah's Ark, with a bat, a deer, a butterfly, a shark and a duck among the new additions.

However, the most popular new animal online is sure to be the gorilla. Many internet users have already named the emoji Harambe, for the male gorilla shot dead at a zoo in the U.S. earlier this year. The animal's death sparked a wave of outrage online, followed by an irreverent, tongue-in-cheek series of memes.

In that spirit, many turned to Twitter to celebrate the arrival of Harambe in emoji form.

Apple has not announced a release date for iOS 10.2, but it just released iOS version 10.1.1, so there's no rush for them to get the next version out.

So hang onto your "ducks out for Harambe" texts a little while longer.
