LAVAL, Que. - An overpass north of Montreal has been reopened to traffic less than nine months after part of the old structure collapsed, crushing five people to death.

Quebec Transport Department officials reopened the viaduct about 4 p.m. today after traffic lights and road signs were installed.

The de la Concorde Boulevard in Laval collapsed on Sept. 30, killing five people including a pregnant woman.

A public inquiry headed by former premier Pierre Marc Johnson is trying to determine what caused the overpass to collapse.

The probe has exposed flaws in the original construction methods.
