According to Twitter, Canada was built on two simple principles: every citizen has the inalienable right to gourmet cheese served at an appropriate temperature, and that fancy fromage should be served, without exception, on a bed of unbroken crackers.
A day after CTV News reported that Auditor General Michael Ferguson had sent letters to 40 current and former senators about questionable expense claims, Sen. Nancy Ruth responded.
“There were a couple of times that my assistant put in for a breakfast when I was on a plane and they say I shouldn’t have claimed because I should have eaten that breakfast,” she told reporters.
“Well, those breakfasts are pretty awful,” Ruth explained. “If you want ice-cold Camembert with broken crackers, have it.”
That comment set off a flurry of responses on Twitter. Below are some of the best tweets and cheesiest puns:

When I was a lad we were happy to have ice-cold Camembert and broken crackers. We begged for it. Got nothing but paste and gruel instead.

Couldn't the honourable Nancy Ruth have warmed the Camembert up under her arm or something? That's what I do with my phone when it's cold.

Things to do today: Attend meetings ✔️ File expenses ✔️ Remove Camembert from the fridge ✔️ Discard broken crackers ✔️ #UpperHouse #canpoli

For the record, Camembert is best when warm and gooey. Anything colder is just cruel.
