A new NDP attack ad uses quotes and clips from Canadian media to suggest Prime Minister Stephen Harper has deceived Canadians.

The new advertisement, titled “Lying Liars,” was released on Tuesday. It highlights media quotes that appear to slam Harper for his handling of a variety of issues.

The short advertisement begins with an unflattering photo of Harper beside the statement “Conservatives have been making a lot of things up.”

It continues with circus-like music, rotating through specifically chosen quotations from The Globe and Mail, National Post and other major publications.

A quote from a Sept. 21, 2012 Postmedia article reads “Stephen Harper took a bold step … uncoupling himself from the mundane world of facts and deftly using confusion as a weapon.”

A line from the Ottawa Citizen calls the Conservatives “cynical liars” with no intellectual integrity. The National Post was quoted saying they perfected “dumb, dishonest, attack-dog politics.”

However, no context or explanation was given for the quotes used in the ad.

In a statement released with the ad, the NDP accused the Conservatives of misleading Canadians about NDP policies and cutting services that Canadians rely on, namely food safety and employment insurance.

The ad, which ends with the tagline “Canadians deserve better,” is posted on the NDP website.

The NDP party released a similar attack ad in early July which depicted Harper as a grim-faced leader who has “created the worst deficit in Canadian history.”
