Langevin Block, which houses the Prime Minister’s Office, reopened Wednesday afternoon, hours after a man was taken into custody following a bomb threat.
Police began letting staff into the building, which is across the street from the Parliament buildings, shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Ottawa police were called to the scene at 11:20 a.m. on reports of a "suspicious person incident" and a suspicious package at the building.
Police said they rendered the package safe using a police robot.
While the investigation is in its early stages, Ottawa police Const. Marc Soucy said a man is in custody and is “considered a person of interest at this time.”
Wellington St. has also reopened, though Metcalfe St., remains closed between Wellington and Queen for emergency vehicles.
The incident occurred hours before the federal government unveils its agenda for the new session of Parliament in its Speech from the Throne. Gov.-Gen. David Johnston is to read the speech in the Senate chamber starting at 5 p.m. ET.
