TORONTO - One of the most prominent American television shows profiles Prime Minister Trudeau tonight.

"60 Minutes" is doing a piece on Trudeau in advance of his state visit to Washington this week where he'll meet with U.S. President Obama.

A promotional blurb on the CBS website describes Trudeau as "a scion of Canadian political royalty" from a family often compared to the Kennedys in the U.S.

Although the piece has not aired yet it is already generating some controversy.

Last week The Associated Press obtained a transcript of the "60 Minutes" interview with Trudeau and he is quoted as saying that Canadians would be appreciative if Americans paid more attention to what is going on around the world.

It prompted Conservative MP Jason Kenney to take to social media and refer to Trudeau's comment as "regrettably smug."
