Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan has been voted Britain's Favourite Movie Mum.

The 'Twilight' character played by the 22-year-old actress has topped an Empire Cinemas poll of the nation's favourite cinematic mothers ahead of Mother's Day, held Sunday Match 10 in the U.K., beating Marge Simpson and Meryl Streep's 'Mamma Mia!' character.

Bella and her vampire lover Edward Cullen - played by Kristen's on/off boyfriend Robert Pattinson - welcomed daughter Renesmee in last year's final instalment of the supernatural franchise, 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II', and it appears the strong-willed character's maternal instinct struck a chord with movie fans, earning 89 per cent of the vote.

Jon Nutton, marking director for Empire Cinemas, said: "Our customers' opinions are incredibly important to us and we wanted to give them a chance to vote for their favourite movie mum. Cinema goers have chosen three very different but equally amazing characters in film to top the poll."

Meanwhile, beloved animated character Marge Simpson was voted Funniest Movie Mum in the poll after making her big screen debut in 2007's 'The Simpsons Movie'. The blue-haired mother-of-three beat Meryl Streep's Donna in 'Mamma Mia!' and John Travolta's cross-dressing role as Edna Turnblad in 'Hairspray'.

'American Pie' cougar 'Stifler's Mom', played by Jennifer Coolidge, was named Most Embarrassing Movie Mum in the poll beating Marge and Donna.
