A grieving British Columbia father says he's confident the RCMP will catch the person responsible for his daughter's death in a parking garage last week.

Police found Maple Batalia suffering from gunshot wounds on the third-floor of a Surrey parking garage last Wednesday.

The Simon Fraser University nursing student died in hospital. She was only 19 years old.

Dozens of officers have since been tasked with investigating her death.

Police have said Batalia did not have any ties to drugs or gangs and that her death is "not a result of a questionable lifestyle on her part."

The slain student's father says it is only a matter of time until police catch up with her killer.

"The law is doing its best and the police doing remarkable things to ensure that the future of this matter will get us to the point where we can say we got justice," Harkirat Batalia told CTV British Columbia on Monday.

While police have not announced any arrests in the case so far, a former boyfriend of the deceased recently turned himself in on assault charges.

Gurjinder "Gary" Dhaliwal is accused of assaulting a man and a woman at a Tim Hortons on Sept. 24.

The names of the alleged victims cannot be identified because of a court order.

RCMP Cpl. Drew Grainger told CTV British Columbia that police have determined the altercation "became a little violent," during a series of events in which two people were allegedly pushed and another was punched.
