A sentencing hearing will begin in a British Columbia court Wednesday for Inderjit Singh Reyat, the only man ever convicted in the Air India bombings case.

Earlier this year, Reyat was found guilty of perjury for false testimony he gave at the 2003 trial of two other men who were later acquitted of charges in the deadly 1985 bombings.

The first bomb was inside a suitcase. It exploded at Tokyo's Narita airport and killed two baggage handlers on June 23, 1985.

That same day another bomb went off, blowing up Air India Flight 182 while it was in the air and killing everybody on board.

Reyat's lawyer is asking for a two or three-year sentence for his client. The Crown has not made a recommendation yet.

Reyat could face up to 14 years in prison.

The B.C. man previously served time for his role in both deadly explosions.

In 1991, Reyat was convicted of manslaughter for building the bomb that killed the baggage handlers in Tokyo. Twelve years later, he pleaded guilty to buying parts for the second bomb.

The hearing is scheduled to last for two days.
