An Ottawa basketball coach is facing several sexual offence charges after an alleged incident involving an underage female athlete.

Police say that Dejan Tanasijevic, 62, allegedly sexually-assaulted a teenager during a “recovery massage” after a training session.

Tanasijevic has been charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation, and forcible confinement. His first court appearance was on Saturday, during which he waived arraignment.

Tanasijevic is expected to return to court in the coming weeks. So far, none of the allegations have been tested in court.

A “well-known” coach and personal trainer in Ottawa, Tanasijevic previously worked with the Gloucester Wolverines and the Ottawa Nationals JUEL team.

Police haven’t disclosed when the incident took place, but they say there is concern there may be more victims. Anyone with further information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
