A pair of tourists was injured after being thrown from a horse-drawn carriage in downtown Victoria Wednesday afternoon, when a tour bus apparently bumped the animal.

Victoria police said the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. local time, as the horse and carriage were making their way westbound along Fisgard Street. Witnesses told police that a tour bus bumped the horse, which made the animal buck, throwing two people from the carriage and onto the street.

The horse then bolted down Store Street and then along Wharf Street before it struck a car, which sent the driver flying from the carriage.

The horse came to a stop near Government and Humboldt Streets, police said.

Bruce Wright of Capital City Tally Ho, the carriage company that owns the horse and buggy, echoed witness statements that a bus clipped the horse. Wright said the horse was not injured in the incident.

Police said the passengers’ injuries did not appear to be serious. CTV Vancouver Island reported that one person sustained what is believed to be a fractured arm.

Police are investigating the cause of the initial collision.
