Edmonton police have confirmed that four new charges have been laid against Travis Vader, after he allegedly breached his bail conditions.

Police allege that Vader was trying to steal copper wire in a stolen truck. The new charges against him include breaking and entering and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police arrested Vader Tuesday night after he allegedly tested positive for methamphetamines and contacted a witness in his murder trial – both violations of his bail conditions.

Vader is currently being tried on first-degree murder charges in the deaths of Alberta seniors Lyle and Marie McCann, who disappeared in July 2010. He has pleaded not guilty.

The McCanns were last seen fuelling up their motorhome in their hometown of St. Albert. The Crown alleges that Vader came across the couple and killed them.

Their bodies have never been found, but their motorhome was found burning in the bush west of Edmonton. A vehicle they had been towing was later found hidden among trees.

Debbie Foisy, one of the witnesses in the murder trial, testified Thursday that she saw Lyle and Marie McCann the day after they were supposedly killed, at Minnow Lake campground near Edson, Alta.

But under cross-examination, Foisy said she did not recognize Marie McCann’s face, but “believed it to be her.” She said she did not get a good look at the man who was with her.
