HALIFAX -- Police say investigators have left the site of a former school where a human skull was found this week.

New Glasgow Regional Police say construction workers were demolishing the former Temperance Street School late Wednesday afternoon when they came upon the remains.

Police say in a news release that members of the major crimes unit and forensic unit, along with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiners Office conducted a search of the school early this morning.

Police say the scene was turned back over to the owner early this afternoon.

The medical examiner's office is now examining the skull.
