A 47-year-old kindergarten teacher has been arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting a student.

On April 8, a parent contacted authorities to report that his young son had been assaulted by a teacher at St. Benedict Elementary School, Orangeville police said in a news release.

The father told investigators the alleged assault happened in class, CTV Barrie reported.

A charge of assault was laid following an investigation, police said.

On May 12, the 47-year-old teacher, of Inglewood, was arrested and charged with one count of assault.

She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 13. Orangeville Const. Scott Davis told CTVNews.ca that while he cannot describe the nature of the alleged assault, “it would be considered minor.”

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board told CTV News in a statement that the accused “has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the charge against her.”
