ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says a crew member with medical concerns on a fishing vessel off Newfoundland's coast has been airlifted to hospital.

The Halifax rescue centre says a Cormorant helicopter from Gander, N.L., and a Hercules aircraft both responded to the area about 100 kilometres northeast of St. John's on Saturday.

They say rescue crews hoisted the crew member into the helicopter and took him to a hospital in St. John's.

There's no word on his condition.
