Infant car seats, strollers recalled in Canada due to injury risk

Transport Canada has recalled Britax car seat models, saying a carry handle defect can pose risk of injury to the infants.

The carry handle on affected car seats can develop cracks and break, allowing the seat to fall unexpectedly and possibly cause injury, the government agency says.

To date, Britax says it has received 74 reports, including one from Canada, of the handle developing fractures or cracks, or breaking while in use. The affected models are:

Britax B-Safe 35 CAN Infant Car Seats:

E9LV15M (Black), E9LV15P (Red) and E9LV13F (Sandstone)

Britax B-Safe 35 CAN Travel Systems:

S914300 (Black), S914700 (Red) and S914500 (Sandstone)

The car seats were manufactured between Oct. 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015. Registered owners of affected models can receive a free remedy kit containing instructions and a carry handle bracket to attach to the car seat.

Choking hazard

Health Canada has also issued a recall for B-Ready Strollers and the B-Ready Top Seat Accessory, which was manufactured between April, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2012.

Health Canada says that the foam on the stroller arm bar may pose a choking hazard.
