A flight from Toronto to Vancouver was grounded for more than an hour Thursday night after one passenger allegedly decided to smoke pot on the airplane.

“I didn’t know what the smell was. I didn’t recognize it,” one passenger aboard the Air Canada flight told CTV News. “But it was a pungent scent.”

Another passenger said the airline made an announcement that the man in question was “inebriated on drugs.”

According to Air Canada, the captain of the flight then elected to return to the gate. The man was then escorted out of the aircraft.

“As he came off, people were saying he was smoking weed on the plane,” a passenger said.

Air Canada issued a statement to CTV News Friday.

“The safety of our passengers and crew is our first priority,” they said.
