Police in Windsor, Ont. say a suspected shooter has been apprehended following an hours-long manhunt.

Police said Richard Wallace, 29, of Windsor, was taken into custody Wednesday morning.

Earlier, authorities were asking residents to stay away from the area of Pillette Village, after shots were reportedly fired at a residence overnight.

During the manhunt, police said the shooter was reportedly wearing camouflage and carrying a long gun.

Officers first responded to a reported shooting involving multiple people at a residence at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Around 2:30 a.m., police pulled over a stolen vehicle and arrested two individuals.

Windsor Police Const. Andrew Drouillard told CTV News Channel that the suspected shooter was seen by a citizen walking in the area carrying a long gun.

Prior to that, officers heard shots fired on the street.

“They discovered spent shotgun shells in the roadway and damaged overhead lights, so it appears maybe he was shooting out some lights as he was walking down the street,” Drouillard said.

Police said around 7:30 a.m., officers learned that the suspected shooter may be in a residence. After evacuating neighbouring houses, police attempted to communicate with the suspect, who eventually exited the residence. He was arrested without “further incident,” police said.

Some area schools were closed to students and staff as police investigated, and remained shut for the day.

Police said in a news release that Wallace faces weapon-related charges.

Additionally, the two suspects who were arrested in the vehicle overnight, a 27-year-old male and a 21-year-old female, face charges of possession of stolen property.
