Windsor, Ont. police have laid more charges against a man they say allegedly defrauded people while posing as a medical doctor.

Police say the local man posed as a paediatric neurosurgeon and attempted to charge a desperate family more than $50,000 to perform a procedure on their young child. The man allegedly told the family that the surgery could cure a disorder that the child was born with.

The man was arrested earlier this month on fraud charges, and on Monday police laid further charges.

Investigators say the suspect faces assault charges from five medical examinations the man allegedly performed on victims between the ages of 4 and 40.

The man also faces a new fraud charge related to allegedly attempting to sell a marijuana prescription licence to a victim who was in chronic pain.

Officials say the man may have offered other individuals in the community medical assistance.

Darko Jovanovich, 32, remains in police custody and is expected to appear in court next month.
