HALIFAX -- Environment Canada has issued weather warnings for much of the Atlantic region this weekend.

The national weather forecaster says a low pressure system will track across Nova Scotia on Saturday and into the Gulf of St. Lawrence overnight.

Extreme cold and winter storm warnings have been issued for much of New Brunswick, with up to 35 centimetres of snow expected.

In Nova Scotia, rain and freezing rain are expected throughout the day Saturday, causing slippery road conditions.

Icy roads are also expected in P.E.I., where snow and freezing rain could continue into Saturday evening.

Wind and snowfall warnings have been issued for west coast of Newfoundland, with winds gusting to 150 km/h in some areas.
