Two people are recovering from serious injuries in Edmonton after they were bound, gagged and beaten in an alleged home invasion in the city's north end.
Edmonton Police are looking for a suspect or suspects following the incident that took place about 3 a.m. Friday in the area near 179 Avenue and 99 Street.
The victims of the alleged attack – a man and a woman, believed to be in their 20s – showed up at a medical centre with serious injuries.
Police say that had been bound and beaten, with bags over their heads. Due to the seriousness of the situation, the medical centre went into lockdown.
Officers say the man is still in hospital in serious but stable condition, while the women has been released.
A heavy police presence in Edmonton's Elisinore neighbourhood Friday afternoon left residents confused.
Vince Zumbo, who has lived in the area for five years, said he was surprised to see two police vehicles parked in front of his house. Other residents said the officers on the scene didn't tell them what was going on.
Acting Staff Sgt. Colleen Maynes could not confirm if the incident was gang related or a random attack. However, she said some of the people involved are known to police.
While police confirmed that three others showed up at the health clinic around the same time with serious stab wounds, they do not believe the incidents are related.
