Two Winnipeg helicopter officers whose explicit conversation about oral sex was broadcast by loudspeaker to people below will not be disciplined, police said in a news release Friday.

Numerous Winnipeg residents complained last month about hearing the conversation as AIR1 carried out a routine evening patrol on June 22.

Many took to social media to comment on the incident at the time, and the hashtag #speakerphone began trending on Twitter.

In the statement Friday, police said the incident was an accident and changes had been made to the system to prevent it happening again.

"This occurrence was not a deliberate act. No disciplinary action will be taken against the crew members involved. Several calls were received about the broadcast and the Service contacted those people individually," the statement said.

"The Winnipeg Police Service apologizes for any embarrassment this may have caused."

The statement said changes have now been made to the chopper's wiring system and a switch that activates the PA had been modified to make it harder to turn on by accident.

That means residents such as Holly Caruk, who took to Twitter to request that the helicopter fly over her house and read her a story, are likely out of luck.
