An Ontario man is offering a reward of $3,500 for the safe return of his puppy Tank, who has a large social media following.

George Wang says his floppy-eared companion, who’s only a few months old, disappeared last Thursday from a kennel inside his parents’ home in Kitchener, Ont.

Wang says he believes that Tank -- who has racked up nearly 20,000 followers on Instagram in just a matter of weeks -- was stolen.

“I was a little worried that somebody might try and take the dog,” he said. “People told me, ‘He’s a really good-looking dog so you’ve got to be careful.’”

Police confirmed to CTV Kitchener that they are investigating the possible theft.

Wang says the $3,500 reward he’s offering includes $1,000 from an anonymous stranger.

Tank is “very friendly” and “wags his tail at everybody,” Wang says.

Some social media observers have pointed out that Tank looks like a pit bull, which were made illegal in Ontario since 2005 due to the danger to the public.

Courtney Horst, an animal protection officer with the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society, said Tank is too young to be declared a pit bull. She said pit bulls sometimes look like bulldogs as puppies, but can be distinguished by their pronounced cheek muscles and short stature around the age of one.

Wang says he’s not sure of the breed, but believes Tank may be a mix of bulldog and mastiff.

Either way, Wang is focused on finding his friend. “I just want my puppy back,” he says.
