CALGARY -- Have some beer with your bacon and eggs.
Or maybe a Caesar cocktail to chase down some pancakes.
The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission is going to allow Calgary bars and restaurants to start serving liquor at 8 a.m. during the Stampede, starting Saturday.
And on Friday, parade day, patrons will be able to start boozing it up even earlier at 7 a.m.
The commission says it extended liquor service hours in the past for special Stampede events, such as corporate breakfasts.
The events were successful, so the commission decided to apply the early drinking hours to all businesses during the annual rodeo festival this year.
"We're taking this opportunity to pilot more flexible liquor service hours," AGLC President Bill Robinson said in a press release Thursday.
"This will allow us to get a better sense of both the industry's as well as the wider community's appetite for potential changes to liquor laws we plan to look at further down the road."
The release says businesses are still expected to offer liquor service in a socially responsible manner.
The Stampede runs through July 13.
