Five people spent the night in hospital following a garage explosion in Barrie, Ont., on Friday evening.

Four of the five patients were critically injured by fire after a garage on Collette Crescent blew up just before 9 p.m.

In total, 11 people were transported to hospital immediately following the blast. There were 13 people in the house at the time of the incident and all have been accounted for, fire officials said.

Firefighters controlled and put out the flames Friday night.

The investigation has now been turned over to the Ontario Fire Marshal.

Fire officials are still trying to determine what caused the blast and can’t confirm if it was suspicious.

Damage to the house is estimated at around $400,000.
