A 19-year-old woman had her arm amputated after RCMP said she attempted to jump on a slow-moving train early Saturday morning.

The woman, from Surrey, B.C., was walking with a group that RCMP believe had been drinking. Police say they believe that the group tried to hop aboard a slow-moving train at about 12:30 a.m. near the Fraser River.

As the woman tried to climb aboard, she fell and went under the train, Insp. John Brewer, of the Lower Mainland District RCMP, told CTV Vancouver.

Her arm was injured in the fall, and was later amputated. She is now recovering in hospital.

In the wake of the incident, Brewer warned others to stay away from trains, whether they’re moving or not.

"We don’t want anybody to try to fool around or try to attempt to get on a train," Brewer said. "Just leave the trains alone."
