Parliament Hill’s Centre Block was evacuated twice on Wednesday after fire alarms sounded on a busy caucus day.

People were first ushered out of Centre Block by security shortly after 9 a.m. after fire alarms went off. Fire trucks arrived on scene and several minutes later, the buildings were given the all-clear.

A short time later, fire alarms interrupted at least one news conference, and staff and politicians were ordered to leave again. Everyone was allowed to return about 15 minutes later.

The reason for the evacuations was not immediately clear.
