The RCMP in Alberta is investigating after threats of a high school shooting were posted on Facebook earlier this week.

Police said Saturday that a suspect, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, expressed his desire this week to commit a shooting at a high school in Red Deer, located about 150 kilometres north of Calgary.

The comments were made on Thursday.

The youth, who was known to police, was arrested and charged with uttering threats, breach of probation and procession of a controlled substance on Saturday.

Police said the youth has been remanded into custody as the investigation continues.
