1. Ebola in NYC: A doctor in New York City has tested positive for the virus, after returning from Guinea where he had been treating Ebola patients. Craig Spencer, 33, is now in isolation, undergoing treatment at the city's Bellevue Hospital.

2. Ottawa shootings: The city will open a Book of Remembrance today, for Canadians to honour Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada Cpl. Nathan Cirillo today, two days after he was fatally shot while standing guard at the National War Memorial. On Thursday, MPs convened in the House of Commons for tributes led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and a heartfelt celebration of the man credited with stopping the attack, Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers.

3. 'I don't consider it heroism': Nurse Margaret Lerhe describes the focus amid chaos and confusion when she rushed to Cpl. Cirillo's side in the moments after he was shot. "When you're trained as nurse, that's your job," she said. "You step up."

4. Caught on tape: In their investigation update, RCMP released security video footage showing the moments when the gunman drove from the War Memorial to Parliament Hill, then ran into Centre Block carrying a high-powered firearm. RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson said the chilling images will help to identify security vulnerabilities in what he called, "a challenging security environment."

5. NBA future: Two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash will miss the entire season due to a back injury, the Los Angeles Lakers announced Thursday, less than a week before the start of the regular season. Nash, 40, played just 15 games last season, but hoped for a comeback after undergoing extensive rehabilitation.
