As the popularity of SUVs continues to grow, Porsche is offering clients a way to ensure their rides stand out from the crossover crowd.

Available with either a 3-litre 262hp V6 diesel engine or with a 416hp gasoline/electric hybrid powertrain, the new Platinum editions offer more than simply some bespoke badging and brightwork.

The car's wheel arches have been enlarged so that it can be kitted out with bigger 20-inch alloy wheels featuring the RS Spyder design. The body is painted white or black as standard -- though five metallic colors are available as options -- and elements such as mirror surrounds and the front grille have been given a high gloss black finish.

And while the external changes are subtle, the interior has been significantly upgraded.

Electrically operated leather and Alcantara sports seats with Porsche crests are fitted as standard. The dashboard gets a special analogue clock and there are even backlit stainless steel doorsills.

As well as comfort, the car is big on equipment. It gets the latest edition Porsche infotainment unit and a Bose sound system as standard and to make the car easier to manoeuvre around the inner city, it also has Power Steering Plus and comes with front and rear Park Assist that works in conjunction with the infotainment system's display.

Both cars get tinted glass and anti-glare mirrors as standard but only the hybrid edition will be offered with stationary air conditioning and heating. A hugely popular feature in hotter countries, it allows drivers to cool or heat the cabin remotely before getting into the car.

The Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid Platinum Edition offers a combined fuel economy of 3.4-3.3l/100km (47mpg) and will cost €90,298 in Europe ($81,600 in the US, plus delivery and handling fees) when deliveries commence in June.

The diesel edition meanwhile manages 6.8-6.6l/100km and will cost €74,352. In the US, where diesel power is much less popular, Porsche will be offering customers a 3-litre 300hp gasoline V6 instead. It will cost $65,600.
