The U.N. Security Council is expressing outrage -- a word it rarely uses -- in condemning "the terrorist attack" that killed nearly 150 people at a college in northeast Kenya and calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
A statement approved Friday by all 15 council members paid tribute to Kenya's role in fighting "terrorism" -- especially its role in the African Union's mission in neighbouring Somalia against the extremist group al-Shabab which carried out the attack at Garissa University College.
The Security Council reaffirmed "that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security."
Council members reiterated their determination "to combat all forms of terrorism" and stressed the need to bring all those responsible to justice.
