A cyclist is dead after being hit by a double-decker Olympic bus near the Olympic Park in east London, police said Wednesday.

London’s Metropolitan Police said a bus ferrying journalists struck the 30-year-old man at 7:45 p.m. local time.

The collision occurred just north of the Olympic Stadium, near facilities for Paralympic athletes and the Olympic Velodrome.

Paramedics tried to save the cyclist but he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, police said.

No one aboard the bus was reported injured.

"The police are investigating the accident and our thoughts are with the cyclist's family," the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games said in a statement.

The LOCOG also saidbus service into and out of the media transport mall or the car park had been halted.

An internal shuttle at the Olympic Park remains in service. LOCOG also advised travellers to use public transport at the nearby Stratford underground station.
