A Winnipeg couple recently helped rescue nearly 50 abandoned cats from a Winnipeg alley. Brittany Randall was driving to work approximately one month ago when she started noticing several stray cats in a back alley on Sheppard Street. She took a photo and posted it online, and learned the kittens were abandoned. “It gets colder, and I can’t leave cats hanging down the busy street like that,” Brittany said. “They were eating garbage out of the trash can. It was just so many of them. Cars constantly speed down there, so we had to do something.” Brittany and her husband, Calvin, stepped up, borrowing traps to help rescue the cats, ending up with six in their care. Other rescue organizations also pitched in with traps, and Brittany said 50 were rescued from a home. “This is definitely the most that I’ve seen in one spot,” Calvin said. “Usually, it’s a cat and a couple kittens or something like that, and we take them in, get them fixed, and then try to get them adopted. But in this case here, it was just so many and hard to keep up with.” Brittany said she and Calvin are caring for the six cats until they can be adopted through Tales of Freedom Rescue.
