The City of Winnipeg could soon be looking at what to do with the former lawn bowling clubhouse that sits vacant at Vimy Ridge Memorial Park. In July, the City Centre Community Committee passed a motion requesting the Community Services Committee to direct the Public Service to see if the clubhouse would make for a suitable community gathering space. The motion said the building is currently used for equipment storage and if it were recommissioned, it could better serve as a “multi-purpose amenity that complements the park and encourages greater community use.” It’s noted in the motion that the building is well located in the park and that the city is in need of more indoor community spaces. If the motion passes the Community Services Committee, the Public Service would be tasked with assessing the current condition of the building and what upgrades would be needed, finding another location for equipment to be stored, and determining costs and a proposed timeline for the project to be completed. The committee will discuss the motion on Sept. 8.
