Why were CF-18 jets seen over Winnipeg?

The Royal Canadian Air Force is explaining why Winnipeggers may have seen several military planes flying over the city this weekend.

Social media posts show several CF-18 Hornet planes flying in Winnipeg Sunday.

A spokesperson for the RCAF said the planes made a stop in Winnipeg while returning to Bagotville, Que., after a recent training exercise in Alaska.

The planes are taking part in Arctic Edge 2026, a joint field training exercise involving NORAD and U.S. Northern Command in various locations throughout Alaska and Greenland.
