A fourth candidate has entered the race to be Winnipeg’s next mayor. Real estate agent Umar Hayat registered to be a mayoral candidate Wednesday. This is his second time running for the job, as he was also on the ballot in 2018. Speaking with CTV News, Hayat said his main focuses are tackling crime, improving infrastructure and reducing property taxes for residents. Since running in 2018, Hayat said he has learned a lot and has been talking to Winnipeggers about what they want. “At least I can try (to share) what I’m thinking and I’m talking to Winnipeggers every day, listening from you guys (to) give you a good city,” said Hayat. He encourages people to check out his website, where he lays out his platform in detail on how he wants to improve Winnipeg. So far, Christopher Clacio, current mayor Scott Gillingham, and Michael Vogiatzakis have registered. The deadline is Sept. 22 and election day will be held Oct. 28.
